IN OUR HEARTS-HONOURING THOSE WHO HAVE PASSED

My clients sometimes ask me about my views on honouring those who have passed.  They want to know how to contact a deceased loved on, as well as confirm that they are safe and happy.  The first thing I tell my clients is something that is based on my own personal views. I ask them to please do not use a Ouija board to attempt to contact anyone who has passed.  I personally do not agree with the use of them. It is disturbing to me that they are sold as toys for children, but they are most certainly not toys. I believe that a Ouija board can act as a gateway to the other side, and the average person does not know how to close that gate and/or may welcome entities into their life that they never intended to.

The best way to honour someone who has passed is not by trying to contact them, but by remembering them and sharing your stories about them with others. By sharing your fond memories of them, you keep them alive in your heart, and the heart of others. Humourous tales are especially wonderful, as laughter and love combine to lighten your soul and those you share your stories with.

Another way to cope with the loss of a loved one is to watch for small signs. I have had clients who told me that a loved one visited them in the form of a small insect or bird, like a hummingbird. Winged creatures are historically seen as messengers, as they are able to travel between the world of the living, and the spirit world.  So if a winged creature keeps visiting you, it may be a sign that your loved one is saying hello.

Also, consider the option of continuing to talk to them or pray for them if you are comfortable with that. Like storytelling, it keeps them close to your heart. My dear sweet Grandmother has been gone for 27 years but I still talk to her. I tell her about my day, about her great grandson and whatever else pops into my head. I do it because it helps me to feel connected to her even though she has been gone a long time.

The dream state is another way that people often are able to communicate with a loved one. In our dreaming state we are more receptive to information, and people have reported being visited by and talking to someone who has passed.

Whatever method or methods you decide are best for your personal situation, know that keeping that person or persons in your heart and memory is perfectly acceptable as long as you don’t let it control your life. You are living, enjoy your life and honour those who have passed by remembering them with the joy of life, by living in the here and now, not immersing yourself into the realm of the deceased.
